Why Pi Phi is Important to You: I pledged Pi Phi as a Freshman at a huge university. It was my center all through college. I had many friends outside Pi Phi, but Pi Phi was the deepest part of my college experience and to this day, Pi Phis are the only people from college I really keep in touch with. I always had a full time job and an internship in college so as a collegian, Pi Phi was where I went to have fun and be social. I have joined an alumnae club in ever community I have moved to since college for a total of 5 alumnae clubs. Each has been very different but of great value in connecting me with a great group of women in a new place. I also find it amazing when I meet someone, get to know them, enjoy their friendship, then find out they were a Pi Phi. At the end of the day, we share something very special with over 200,000 women who have been initiated into our sisterhood. I have always been incredibly proud to be a Pi Phi.

Why Pi Phi is Important to You: I intended for PiPhi to be a college experience that would end with college graduation. My Virginia Zeta sisters are still my best friends despite our distance- we span the east (and sometimes west) coast and get together several times per year. Moving to a new city without many connections, PiPhi has provided me a network and social circle, I never would have expected.

Why Pi Phi is Important to you: Growing up, I always knew I would be in a sorority. My mom was a Delta Gamma at Ohio Wesleyan and belonged to her alum club so I was very immersed in the culture. When I went to college, I "rushed" but the DG's dropped me even though I was a legacy. The only other option for me was Pi Phi (which I preferred anyway!). I "suicided" Pi Phi and obviously got in! CU is a large university with approx. 28,000 undergrads, so for me the Greek system was a way to meet people and make the school seem smaller. CO Alpha is also a large chapter with about 100 actives and 50 pledges, but I pretty much knew everyone by the time I initiated. It was fun being a part of a group of smart, attractive, accomplished women from all over the country. Many of the friendships I formed I maintain today even though we live in different areas and don't see each other very often. Since I have really only lived in Mass in my adult life I haven't had the opportunity to arrive in a new city and immediately join an alum club, but I know that if I did, they would welcome me with open arms.
Name: Emily Beck
Initiated Chapter: Pennsylvania Theta (Villanova University)
Degree(s): B.S. Business Administration/Finance/International Business
Career Field: Law
Job Description: Corporate Counsel
Hobbies & Interests: running, volunteering for Villanova Women's Rowing and the Head of the Charles Regatta
Why Pi Phi is Important to you: Ever since I pledged Pi Phi, it has been a grounding force in my life. I was an athlete in college, and at a school like Villanova, there is potential and pressure for your sport to define you. Pi Phi not only provided me with another outlet to channel my energy, but some of the best, most supportive friends I could ever hope for. Pi Phi gave me opportunities to lead and helped me to just kick back and relax when I really needed it. Above all, Pi Phi gave me a much needed connection to my school that went far beyond the athletic department. My sisters are still some of my best friends. As an alum, Pi Phi has given me the chance to meet amazing women from all walks of life who I never would have encountered otherwise. These women have supported me through difficult times and been there to celebrate my successes. Pi Phi has also given me the chance to work with some amazing collegians at MIT, who inspire and impress me with every interaction!
