MA Gamma goes to Convention!

June 2009: This summer, we sent three of our sisters to Pi Phi's national Convention. For five days, Pi Phi's from around the world gathered together in Dallas, Texas to discuss Fraternity policy, share difficulties and triumphs of the past years, tips and tricks for success, and just to celebrate being a Pi Phi.

MA Gamma Recognized at Awards Ceremony

May 2009: Two members of the founding class of the Massachusetts Gamma Chapter, along with a member of the Alumnae Advisory Council received recognition from the Fraternity, Sorority and Independent Living Group (FSILG) Office and the MIT Panhellenic Association. Hillary Benson, the Chapter President, received Panhel's New Member of the Year Award, given to the new member who has made significant contributions to her chapter or the Panhellenic Community despite her short time as a member. As MA Gamma’s first Chapter President, Hillary has made significant contributions to our chapter, helping to build a strong new organization on the MIT campus. Leslie Stachowiak of Wisconsin Alpha was awarded FSILG Outstanding Alumnus Advisor Award for her contribution to the MA Gamma Chapter as the AAC counterpart to the chapter’s VP of Finance. Jennifer Allen of MA Gamma was also recognized as an initiate into the Order of Omega.

Second Class Initiated

April 2009: The Massachusetts Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi initiated thirteen new members Saturday, April 4, bringing the total membership of the newest sorority on campus to 52. Saturday's initiation was the first ceremony conducted by the founding class of the MA Gamma Chapter, and is the end result of a successful informal Spring Recruitment. The newly-initiated and veteran sisters alike were excited and ready for the weekend, which was the culmination of a successful first full year at MIT.

"This weekend was especially exciting for us," said Hillary Benson, Pi Beta Phi's Chapter President, "owing to the fact that the incoming member class was the first initiated by our founding executive council."

In the upcoming months, the sisters will continue to participate in philanthropies of other sororities, such as Alpha Chi Omega's Lipsync, and off-campus ones like Relay for Life. From April 6th to 9th, the chapter will be doing its own fundraising by selling Pi Beta Bunny Baskets - spring baskets filled with candy that will be delivered to student's dorms - to raise money for First Book, a partner organization to Pi Beta Phi that donates books to children in need. The chapter is currently making plans for a larger philanthropy to be held in future years.

MA Gamma and Philanthropy

Dec. 2009: Massachusetts Gamma may be one of the newest Pi Phi chapters, but we take the commitment to enrich lives through community service very seriously. We have participated in several community service events on campus, including presenting an interpretive dance to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” in the MIT chapter of AXO’s philanthropy event. Not content just to participate with others philanthropic events, we joined forces to introduce Pi Beta Phi to the MIT community as an organization committed to philanthropy. Drawing on out own strengths, MA Gamma organized a three day bake sale to benefit both First Book and the Pi Beta Phi Foundation. Nearly every sister was involved in some way, and the bake sale received rave reviews, raising over six hundred dollars. Overall, we have had a successful start to establishing the MA Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi as an organization committed to philanthropy and hope to continue that tradition.
